Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Forest Camping Trip
Labour Day Weekend, Saturday August 31st - Monday September 2nd, 2002

Day 1 - Pictures
- Arrival at Kings Canyon around 1.30pm.
- Total drive time from San jose is about 3.5 hours.
- Hike completed: Mist Falls trail, round trip hike of about 9.4 miles. The trail was relatively flat except for a 600 feet elevation in the last 1.5 miles or so. According to the guide books Mist Falls is one of the largest falls in the Kings Canyon/Sequoia forest area.

Day 2 - Pictures
- Don Cecil trail to LookOut Peak (Elevation 8531 feet, also confirmed by our GPS).

The total trail was 13 miles round trip. According to our GPS we started climbing at 4500 feet. So basically we climbed 4000 feet to the summit. The summit offers a breathtaking view of the parks backcountry. At that point the only human beings higher then you in the immediate vicinity are the people on top of Mount Whitney or Alta peak or on an aeroplane. :)

Day 3 - Pictures
- Sequoia national forest.
- Mora Rock, elevation 6725 feet. Mora rock is a granite dome rising up in the middle of the surrounding mountains. From Mora  rock, you can view the great western divide, mountains runnning North to South dividing the Kaweah River to the West and the  Kern River to the East.

Selected Meanings of the Quran on Mountains and Trees (by Yusuf Ali, Pickthall, Shakir)

(15:19-20)
And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of  things in due balance.

And We have provided therein means of subsistence,- for you and for those for whose sustenance ye are not responsible.

(17:37)
And do not go about in the land exultingly, for you cannot cut through the earth nor reach the mountains in height.

(20:105-107)
They ask thee concerning the Mountains: say, "My Lord will uproot them and scatter them as dust;"
"He will leave them as plains smooth and level;"
"Nothing crooked or curved wilt thou see in their place."

(22:18)
Do you not see that Allah is He, Whom obeys whoever is in the heavens and whoever is in the earth, and the sun and the moon and the stars, and the mountains and the trees, and the animals and many of the people; and many there are against whom chastisement has become necessary; and whomsoever Allah abases, there is none who can make him honorable; surely Allah does what He pleases.

(27:60)
Nay, He Who created the heavens and the earth, and sent down for you water from the cloud; then We cause to grow thereby beautiful gardens; it is not possible for you that you should make the trees thereof to grow. Is there a god with Allah? Nay! they are people who deviate.

(27:61)
Is not He (best) Who made the earth a fixed abode, and placed rivers in the folds thereof, and placed firm hills therein, and
hath set a barrier between the two seas? Is there any Allah beside Allah? Nay, but most of them know not!

(31:10)
He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake
with you; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every
kind of noble creature, in pairs.

(31:27)
And if all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), with seven oceans behind it to add to its (supply), yet
would not the words of Allah be exhausted (in the writing): for Allah is Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom.

(33:72)
We did indeed offer the Trust to the Heavens and the Earth and the Mountains; but they refused to undertake it, being afraid thereof: but man undertook it;- He was indeed unjust and foolish.

(34:10)
We bestowed Grace aforetime on David from ourselves: "O ye Mountains! Sing ye back the Praises of Allah with him! and ye birds (also)! And We made the iron soft for him;

(38:17-18)
Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).
It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day,

(41:9-12)
Say: Is it that ye deny Him Who created the earth in two Days? And do ye join equals with Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds.

He set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it, and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measure therein all
things to give them nourishment in due proportion, in four Days, in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek
(Sustenance).

Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky, and it had been (as) smoke: He said to it and to the earth: "Come ye
together, willingly or unwillingly." They said: "We do come (together), in willing obedience."

So He completed them as seven firmaments in two Days, and He assigned to each heaven its duty and command. And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. Such is the Decree of (Him) the Exalted in Might, Full of Knowledge.

(55:5-6)
The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed;
And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration.

(56:72)
Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?

(79:27-32)
Are you the harder to create or the heaven? He made it.

He raised high its height, then put it into a right good state.

And He made dark its night and brought out its light.

And the earth, He expanded it after that.

He brought forth from it its water and its pasturage.

And the mountains, He made them firm,

A provision for you and for your cattle.

(88:17-20)
Will they not regard the camels, how they are created?

And the heaven, how it is raised?

And the hills, how they are set up?

And the earth, how it is spread?
